LinkedIn covers all of your work and accomplishments, resumes focus on a one-page snapshot that is scannable and tells your story, a portfolio website is a virtual representation that shows the breath of work. We all understand information in different ways, why not cover your bases and offer something for everyone. The best part is that creating a website can be simple!
Squarespace is easy, relatively inexpensive, and handles the domain for you. They even have a logo maker! (This is not an advertisement).
Every podcast in the world has a discount code, but Squarespace offers their own too.
You can get started for free before signing up, and you can get everything sorted out in draft mode before you publish to the world.
Use their tool to find a domain. As usual, your name is best, but get creative if it is taken. What’s your brand?
I’m currently using the Avenue template, but have also used Flatiron in the past. There are a lot of good portfolio templates out there and it’s possible to preview and switch to a new one at any time.
You can be creative about the design and content on your site. At a minimum you should have an “About”, “Experience,” and a “Projects” or “Work” to cover who you are and some of the work you’ve completed.
You don’t need a lot of content to get started, but photos are best to show off your work at a glance. People want to see the breadth of what you’ve done. Details can always be added later.
